The world through the eyes of a woman 3

And he murdered her innocence...........

Rape is one of the most degrading, devastating emotional events that can happen to a person. It's no longer news that the evils of rape leave a sour taste in the mouth. Although the victims of rape have in recent times come to include guys,
  • the ratio of guys to gals victims has been researched to be 1:10 *. This means about 10% of rape cases have young men as victims. Meanwhile, 93% of these cases have men as the rapist and about 7% as female rapists**.

Looking at the statistics, it shows extensively that women are the main victims of rape and men are mostly the perpetrators .Now, the burning question is why? Why do our men rape?
From my own point of view , I think its principally because of their desire to feel powerful, to be in charge. From movies, to novels and most especially true life stories ;the rapist usually derives pleasure in rape chiefly because he was about to take from his victim something personal (and precious in the case of virgins)and this gives a kinda maniacal thrill.
One crazy thing about this monster called rape is that in some occurrences the victim is blamed of seducing the rapist . The stigmatization that comes with been raped is even more painful than the act itself. This sometimes causes rape victims from exposing the perpetrator. Even when the victim develops courage to expose the rapist, in most cases, justice isn't served as it's supposed to. The rights of women are really not taken as seriously as it should be taken.
I would say this all boils down to the up-bringing of children . Seeing the father beat or treat the mother in derogatory manner is bound to have a negative effect on the children both male and female. There have been cases where a man regularly beats his wife in the presence of their children. The boys grow up thinking its normal to beat your wife to submission and the girls go into marriage with the thinking that she deserves to be beaten by her husband.
I recently heard of this kind of situation. There's this family where the man was always beating his wife and having extramarital affairs. In a discussion being  held with this man that I overheard, he revealed that it's the way his own father relates with his mother that he's also trying to do to his wife. This man said his mother serves his father on her knees carrying the plates and he eats from her palms! Can you imagine?!!!!!!😐😒😡 It's crazy. For crying out loud, this man in question is educated, a freaking PhD holder!
This man of recent raped his wife's sister and attempted to beat his mother-in-law! Had it been that this couple were residing in somewhere like The United States of America, he would have been put in a mental institution or in prison. But in our dear old Nigeria, what happens ? The wife is told to be patient , obedient and prayerful ! I think we've gotten our thinking patterns mixed up in this country, or its probably due to our culture, but somehow people find a way of making the whole mess the wife's fault!

Well, i guess it's the cross women have to bear, but i hope things turn around for good soon. I hope that men learn to appreciate the women in their lives ( mother, girlfriend, sisters, all female friends in general and even strangers). I hope they learn before it's too late that you don't earn respect from a woman by intimidating or even beating her, that only earns you her fear. True respect comes from respecting her in return. As they say, respect is reciprocal.
