You belong to me...(7)

Simi drove away from the house in a rage, her eyes blinded with tears. She was hurt beyond repair. It was difficult processing the thought of her marriage ending yet she couldn't bring herself to forgive this lying, cheating bastard again. The moans of pleasure she heard the evening before was on repeat in her head. Her hands were trembling on the steering.  It was a miracle she got to the hotel safely.
When she finally got settled in her hotel room, she hurled herself at the bed and wept bitterly.

Needing someone to talk to, she called the one person that could understand her situation.  Tunde was a friend, a colleague.  They had a kind of chemistry neither of them could explain.  Despite her love for Sam she just couldn't deny the attraction to Tunde.
Tunde answered the call almost immediately it got through. " Hello dear, how are you? “."I need to see you”, she said tearfully. " Where are you? "he asked.  She told him. " I'll be there right away! ".

Less than an hour later, the receptionist informed her that a Mr. Tunde was asking of her downstairs.  Simi asked her to send him up to her room. 'That was fast', she thought, ‘he must have broken all traffic rules to get here so quickly'.
Immediately Simi heard the knock on the door, she flung it open and threw her into Tunde's arms. “Hold me Tunde, just hold me. I don’t want to talk.” Tunde carried her back to the bed and cuddled up with her while she continued crying.

Tunde understood the need for her to let out all the pent up emotions and let her cry herself to sleep. While she slept, Tunde pondered on the kinda relationship they had so far. He was madly in love with her but she loved her husband. Even despite his infidelity issues, she always chose to stay with him. He was beginning to think that guy had fed her with love potion. It just didn’t make sense; no woman takes infidelity from her partner. Although he hates seeing her heartbroken and crying, he knew it was necessary if she had to break free from the marriage. It was obvious that this had to happen if he was to ever be with her. She would have never cheated on her husband.
Even before she got married, he had always been in love with her but her made mistake of not telling her fast enough. The next thing he knew she was giving him her wedding invitation. Seeing her at work almost every day was a constant reminder of what happens when you don’t open your mouth to claim what you want for yourself. As a wise man once said, “A closed mouth is a closed destiny”.

Tunde was drawn out of his musings by Simi stirring. He drew her even closer. This was the first time he was in such close quarters with her. It had an overwhelming effect in him. He could smell whatever it was that she smears on that beautiful, flawless skin of hers. He was sure to go out of his mind if she didn’t become his to hold and cherish at the end of all this drama.
A couple of hours later, Simi finally woke up. Tunde had fallen asleep still cuddling her. Noticing the way he held on to her like his life depended on it, slowly she became conscious of Tunde as a man. All this while she had known him, she had tried to see him as the brother she never had in other to avoid complications. They had been friends since she got employed at the Essence holdings plc. She helped her settle in and showed her the ropes. Even after she was settled in, he still kept in touch. Calling in to check on her, popping into her office from time to time and the never-ending chats on WhatsApp. Through it all, what fascinated her most was that he never for once brought up dating talks. It was really surprising. He was a perfect gentleman at all times. Thank God for that, only God knows what she would have done had he made sexual advances towards her. She obviously found him very attractive, it would have been difficult to say NO. But he never said anything out of place – too bad. It hurt her feelings (or rather ego) to think that he didn’t find her desirable enough to ask her out.

But she soon got over it when she met Sam. She fell madly in love with him. In the space of 5 months, they got married to the surprise of everyone including Simi herself. Looking back now, it seems like she had made a mistake rushing into the marriage. The first few months were good until she started noticing some funny calls and excuses from her husband. The text message brought his infidelity into the open.

Later on, Tunde woke up but it was too late for him to go home. Simi told him to stay the night. He was to sleep on the couch.
It was obvious he was not too comfortable with the arrangements. “Tunde understand that no matter the issues I have with my husband, he’s still my husband. Cuddling up with you was an impulsive act in a moment of weakness.” Simi explained.
“How dare you!” he shouted standing from the bed.” You look me in the eye and tell me I mean nothing to you. Am I only good for solace after that bastard hurts you? If you’ve not already noticed, I love you and it’s driving me crazy! “he thundered. Simi was shocked more by the emotions dripping from the words than the words themselves. She was short of words.

He continued “I’m sorry for shouting at you but I can’t keep this in anymore. I’ve always loved you. Since the first day I saw you at the office. I didn’t want to come off as one of those guys, that was the reason I was playing it cool at first. I never expected it when you told me you were getting married to Sam. I would have told you then but I was happy that you had found love, didn’t want to ruin it.”
There were no words that would be appropriate as a reply for this confession of undying love. Simi felt really bad. All this while she had been crying on his shoulders and depending on him, it never occurred to her that HE needed someone to depend on. She was so engrossed in her joys and sorrows.
There and then, it dawned on her; she loved him too. Sam was one to call her whenever he had time, but Tunde made out time to call her even on his busiest days. She and Sam were usually too busy for each other but she always had time for those long discussions even when she was on business trips.

She walked across the room and looked him in the eyes. “I love you too” she said softly. He gathered her in his arms once more and brushed his lips against hers in the gentlest, feathery kiss. “I’ve waited so long for this” he whispered.
They spent the night together but there was no hanky-panky, they just talked themselves to sleep. They spent the rest of the weekend together, just having fun and exploring their redefined relationship.
On Monday morning when Tunde drove Simi to the airport, they were reluctant to separate. “These few days we spent together have been the best days of my life.” Tunde said. “Me too” said Simi. “I’ll really miss you”. They kissed goodbye and she went off to catch her plane.
Over the one week that Simi spent on the trip, they called each other like a million times. Smiles and silly giggles like teenagers in love for the first time. All through his time, Sam had sent numerous text messages and had called till Simi finally blocked his number and all the other ones he used to call her. She didn’t want to hear his pleas again.
On Friday when she was done with what she went to do, Tunde picked her on arrival. She asked him to drive her home. “I have a few things to say to Sam” she said. When they got to the house, she told him to wait in the car.
Stressed out and moody, she walked into the house devoid of love and smiles. Sam was relieved to see her. “Baby, I’ve been calling you for days now. I’m miserable without you. I need you, I love you.”. Just a look at her husband and the pitiable state of their marriage was enough to finalize her decision. She was done with this camouflage marriage.

She walked in the bedroom and packed some of her things. She came back to the sitting room, meeting Sam the same way she had left him; sobbing soulfully, lost in his world of self-pity. She realized then that he wasn’t sorry because he did something wrong, he was sorry because he wanted her. His wants came before her feelings. ‘You selfish bastard!’ she thought.
She faced him squarely and said “you’ll hear from my lawyer”. She turned to walk out of the house.
He was stunned! That was the last thing he expected from Simi. He tried to grab her but it was too late, she was already out of the house, out of reach…
He cried out in agony after her “NOOOO! YOU BELONG TO ME!”

  1. It's a really nice piece. Please try to proofread before you post there were some grammar errors, and this is a story it shouldn't be so at all,as a writer you should be devoid of mistakes, just proofread well before you post that's all. All in all it was a good writing and I wish you all the best in both your physiotherapy career and your writing career.

  2. Still the same complains I used to have over your pieces: error of omission and punctuation. It is either you get an editor for yourself, or you always take the pain to peruse your piece before its broadcast. You're carving a niche for yourself in this field, and it will be expedient if your readers don't know you for grammatical fallibilities. I pray the good Lord will take you places in this field in Jesus' name _____?

Nice piece! Highly educating; realistically intuitive. To be factual, you're really doing a great job. The story, punchlines, sentences, and even the use of some parts of speech - everything is just so stupendous.

However, if that lady called Simi is your relative or sister-friend, please tell her that I said she had made the wrongest choice of all time. I won't say much on my intake, because I'm not given to too many words. But then, let me just encapsulate my opinion with this popular saying..."The devil you know today is better than the angel you're yet to know." She only knows Tunde in friendship, not in marriage.......I'm sure you or the Simi [if she exist] can decipher.

    Thank you!

  3. ERM...so what's the moral of the story? Cheat and let cheat? Or neglect and cheat? Just wish for once that a romance story had a sensible ending!
    Nice story telling though!
