Na fat you fat, you no kill person!

Tears rolls down your fat cheeks.
Those very cheeks your father always said hug on your face like a bull dog waiting for its next treat.

Screams of Orobo, Orobo fill the street anytime you walk by.
You put on a strong face, sometimes you even laugh it off.
Going back into your closet, to cry yourself to sleep at night.

To you, your physical look is something disgraceful,
A taboo to society,
A curse on humanity.

Each time you board a bus, you open up a healing wound as fellow passengers begin to scream madam "please help us adjust"

You try really hard, squeezing your body on the cold metal of the bus, but still they give you the evil eye, and careful calculated sighs are thrown your way.

Shopping is another story
You sigh, as you try on the tenth cloth that doesn't pass through your fleshy motherly arms.
Beads of sweat rolls down your body, the sales attendant gets impatient and starts screaming "madam go and loose weight oh"

You turn down invitations to dinner dates and outings.
Not because you don't want to attend, But because you are wondering what people would say if they saw you on the arms of someone you are three times bigger than.
Would they call you his mum ?
would he be ashamed of me ?

You stick out like a sore thumb at family gathering, as family members keep on reminding you that you are bigger than the last time they saw you. Calling you "IYA"

Picture time, "say cheese! "
Once again Folakemi is the mother in the picture, occupying space
No matter how much poses you try, your flat shaped face is still prominent

Your church pastor looks at you one day in the midst of your church members and says "do you feel good being this big? Does it make you feel like you can boss your mates around?"
You are shocked and secretly vow never to respect him again.

You live in constant fear of a heart attack anytime your online boyfriend changes his profile picture to that of a much more "slimmer girl"

You keep on complimenting the picture "her makeup is so nice, edges so beautiful, tell her, will you? " your clueless lover laughs and says "okay love. "

So called friends whispering:
Did you see the picture Folakemi scarred our eyes with? imagine her nerve, putting on display the rolls and layers of unhealthy lifestyle for the world to see.

The love of your life finally gets your number from a friend, his only mistake being, he knows only your surname,
Halfway into the conversation you tell him "i think you have the wrong sister"
Sighs
Poof, he corrects you "oh ! it's you I wanted to talk to" but it's too late, he already saw the red lights blinking.

You turn boys down and they call you ugly, sending message contents of
"I even wanted to manage you, in order to help your condition"
What is your condition ?

The society tags you as an abomination against the standards of beauty demanded.

God forbid you win a pageant.

I feel so sorry Folakemi, sorry your mother keeps on comparing you to your other siblings,
I'm sorry she signs you up at gyms and even go as far as rationing you meals,  "You must loose this weight if not you won't get a good husband" this statement is the national anthem you stand at attention to.
Still you weigh 110kg, an 18 year old child rolling around like a ball.

This lack of self confidence grows by the day,
You forget all about "team flat tummy jesus" and give in to despair,
Being Slim is not for you after all, you have tried it all,
Slimming pills and teas,
Exercises,
You once used alcohol as a sliming agent,
Now you have ulcer from starvation.
Yet this burden is still prominent.

You loose hope, whenever someone says I love you, you replies are always the same line of cold "I am not ready yet"

You smile less now, let's just take the picture and be done with it, you say little at gathering you are forced to attend, always searching for a corner to hid before aunty Joke will come and scream at your size.

Ah ! Folakemi how I wish you will open your eyes to face reality and accept yourself for who you are.

Na fat you fat, you no kill person.

What do you guys think of this.  Is being fat a disease?
Some people have no idea that their constant referring to their friends size can result in depression and eventually , the famous 'sniper'.

Do people understand what these 'friendly bants' do to a person's self esteem. The victim might smile and pretend it doesn't mean anything but deep inside,  it hurts.
